Truth Behind Lies (Final Draft)

"The final revelation is that lying, the telling of beautiful untrue things is the proper aim of art.” - Oscar Wilde
The world is boring if there are no lies, someone in the internet said. Lies made it more exciting and fun. Lies are intentionally false statement and technically, lies are already part of our daily lives. I bet no one can tell me that they never lied in their entire existence because once a lie escapes your lips another will follow smoothly until it’s like a habit that you can’t break.

We tell more lies that we could keep tabs on. Now even lies can be the truth. With manipulation and good words one can lie himself out of a sticky situation.

Interpersonal deception explains that deception is interactive (Buller and Burgoon, 1996). We formulate what lie we are going to say depending on whom and what relationship we have to that person. On this note I agree to Buller and Burgoon because I have experience this.

When my uncle died and we have to explain things to my little cousin we used falsification and told her that her dad is just going somewhere far and may not come back again. Or when my sister and I wanted to go to a Christmas party and our dad won’t allow us we tried to tell something closer to the truth but not entirely the truth in that way we will be permitted to go.

"We tell lies when we are afraid...afraid of what we don't know, afraid of what others will think, afraid of what will be found out about us. But every time we tell a lie, the thing we fear grows stronger." - Tad Williams

Lying takes a lot of effort out of a person. We have to think of effective lies that the other person will believe and keep tabs on it so that we won’t be caught.

Twitching of the nose, unable to make eye contact or shaking of the hands cannot be a clear sign that a person is deceiving. Many may perceive wrong and a person who will be accused of lying may only be afraid of being not believe or have a low self-esteem. I agree that no one can be a 100% lie detector even with years of experience.

I cannot say that I am against telling lies or the extermination of it, because some lies can produce a good cause. But let’s be truthful, most people who tell lies only do this for their own personal gain and won’t look back to the destruction they will cause. They say it will not affect them directly but it will catch-up on them in the future.

“A life of deceit is one of unmitigated torture--a living hell, which should deserve our pity for the unhappy beings who submit to it. It is surprising to what shifts and excuses those who lead so slippery a course are driven, in the vain hope to hoodwink the shrewd, with the painful necessity of laughing off exposures too glaring to be concealed--yet, when all is done, but to place themselves in the position of the stag which, thrusting its head into a thicket, believed itself to be unseen. In fact, there is very little hidden from society; and, as people of the world are generally willing to overlook much, the greater part of this maneuvering, with its attendant misery, might be spared.” - CHARLES WILLIAM DAY, The Maxims, Experiences, and Observations of Agogos

The Truth Behind Lies

“The final revelation is that lying, the telling of beautiful untrue things is the proper aim of art.” - Oscar Wilde
The world is boring if there are no lies, someone in the internet said. Lies made it more exciting and fun. Lies are intentionally false statement and technically, lies are already part of our daily lives. I bet no one can tell me that they never lied in their entire existence.

Thomas Jefferson once said that “He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good dispositions.”, so lie once and you can easily find yourself saying more and more.

We tell more lies that we could keep tabs on. Now even lies can be the truth. With manipulation and good words one can lie himself out of a sticky situation.

The “Interpersonal Personal Deception Theory”

It describes deception that is used in conversation between two people. It counters the idea of people that we can detect deception. It also said that deception is interactive rather than individual because the people can constantly adjust their behavior to the other when they are lying.

There are three common deception practices: Falsification (create fiction) Concealment (hide secret) Equivocation (dodges the issue). Usage of these depends on who the person is lying to and what is their relationship between them. Three aims are said to be achieve when telling a lie: instrumental goal, relationship and to save their face or image.

The "Leakage Hierarchy"

It explains that our non-verbal communication gave us away when we try to deceive people.  Zuckerman and Driver have identified four cues to deception 1) Attempted Control, 2) Arousal, 3) The Affective Approach and, 4) Cognitive Factors). By studying visual, paralinguistic, and verbal cues, Zuckerman and Driver have identified how and when some behaviors are associated with deception.

“Othello Error”

The fear and stress of being disbelieved are misinterpreted by the other person as evidence of lying. A common mistake made by many who think themselves clever enough to think they can interpret whether someone is lying. However, what they think is lying is actually just that person's fear of being disbelieved. Thus, that person is mistaken in believing that the other was lying.
Buller and Burgoon have created a theory that offers multiple explanations for what takes place during deceptive communication. They suggest that expectancy violations could be the unifying factors in the theory. It explains how people recognize deception a respondent becomes suspicious when the deceiver begins to act in the strange way

"We tell lies when we are afraid...afraid of what we don't know, afraid of what others will think, afraid of what will be found out about us. But every time we tell a lie, the thing we fear grows stronger." - Tad Williams

This theory explains the reasons behind lies and deception, and why people continue on doing it. It clearly explains also that we can never tell if someone is deceiving you. No amount of practice or training can make you a 100% lie detector.

I cannot say that I am against telling lies or the extermination of it, because some lies can produce a good cause. But let’s be truthful, most people who tell lies only do this for their own personal gain and won’t look back to the destruction they will cause. They say it will not affect them directly but it will catch-up on them in the future.

Why am I feeling this?

Why am I feeling this?

My chest is hurting. My breaths are coming out in short gasps. Everything is blurred. I'm already drenching in sweat and my body is aching. It feels like I've been running for hours; running bare feet in shattered glass. Panic is rising within me. I can't scream, dang I can't even find my voice. I tried to grab something, anything, but all that my hands got a hold of is air. It felt like dying, I feel every part of me stopped functioning. Every second passing felt like an eternity. I just want this to stop; I want this to be over. At last I feel exhaustion taking over. My eyelids are slowly closing. Now I can't feel anything, pain is escaping my body leaving it limp and lifeless. I'm succumbing; I don't want to fight anymore. I just want to rest.
Before I was engulf by unconsciousness the only thing I remember is that:

I'm still plunging into dark chasm.

THEN I WOKE UP.
